Evans Escapades–Playing Catch Up

Since we have been in Cape Cod. . .we have been going, going, going. . .
so I haven’t stopped long enough to blog. . .

Today’s blog is a compilation of several days. . .
I will just show you my favorite highlights,
and then for those of you interested enough,
click on the links to the albums for the entire story. . .
and hover over each pic to see the captions. . .thanks!

Friday, Sept 6
Hyannis, Hyannisport Harbor Cruise and the Kennedy Compound
Hyannis and Hyannisport Harbor and Kennedy Compound Cruise. . .so great. . .one of our favorite days!
we determined a Harbor Cruise out of Hyannis Mass
was the best way to see the Kennedy Compound. . .
Hyannisport MA as seen from the water. . .Kennedy Compound
from the time I knew we were going to Cape Cod,
seeing it was my main objective. . .
Hyannisport MA as seen from the water. . .Kennedy Compound. . .house with three dormers belonged to Rose and Joseph Kennedy. . .the house on the left with the barn style roof belonged to Robert Kennedy. . .JFK and Jacqueline's house was behind these two.
SUCCESS. . .it’s not near as formidable as imagined in my mind. . .
but I can certainly see why the family enjoyed being here so much. . .
Massachusetts, Hyannis (40)
the JFK Memorial Park is also available for your viewing pleasure. . .
a short drive, or walk from the Harbor. . .

Monday, Sept 9
State Capitol Building in Providence RI  plus a side trip to Newport RI
We normally try to stay in on weekends to avoid all the crowds. . .
so we waited ‘til Monday to go check out . . .
State House - Providence Rhode Island - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhode_Island_State_House
the Rhode Island State House. . .
David - Janice - Rhode Island State House
we even went inside. . .
on to the next event. . .
Welcome to Newport
Newport Rhode Island is only 45 minutes away from Providence. . .
Newport Bridge - the longest suspension bridge in New England - $4 toll - cost $55 M to build in 1966. . .cost $87 M to paint in 2013. . .
may as well go check it out. . .
we were here in 2005 off a New England Fall Foliage Cruise,
and toured the Newport Mansions then. . .
so not quite sure why we felt the need to return. . .
we did a trolley tour to hear about all the mansions "Summer Cottages" and the owners. . .
but a trolley tour to see the rest of the town might be nice. . .
so that’s what we did. . .the tour driver was very knowledgeable. . .
although from a personal standpoint. . .his jokes about wives were a little lame. . .
got a little old after about the first three. . .however. . .
he did know his stuff about who owned which house. . .
what it was worth. . .when it was built. . .really great!
view from the trolley. . .these are Galloways "the Oreo Cookie" Cow. . .first time we had ever seen or heard of them. . .
my favorite pic of the day. . .one of the “mansion” owners out on Ocean Drive
has a farm. . .these are Galloways. . .the “Oreo Cookie” cow. . .
view the "Summer Cottages" from the Cliff Walk
we drove over to the Cliff Walk and enjoyed walking down it for a few minutes. . .
it was damaged during Hurricane Sandy. . .so repairs are still ongoing. . .

I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing a couple days worth of our Escapades. . .
I mostly write this blog as my travel journal,
but I absolutely love hearing from you. . .
so leave us a comment!

‘til next time,
Janice and Dave
