Evans Escapades at Nantucket

This is going to be a longer post,

because Nantucket is seriously fabulous. . .

As I told you before, we did a New England/Canada Cruise in 2005

so we had visited Martha’s Vineyard then. . .this trip we wanted to see Nantucket. . .

The High Speed Ferry to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Island . . .travels up to 42 knots. . .no vehicles. . .

and decided the High Speed Ferry – 1 hour trip was the way to go. . .

vs the regular ferry 2 1/2 hour trip. . .28 miles away. . .

waiting for the ferry, cattle car style. . .unloading from the ferry.. .

the positive of the high speed ferry. . .it’s a lot quicker. . .

the negative of the high speed ferry. . .cattle car style loading and unloading. . .

they load you in the chutes. . .and push you on and off. . .not fun. . .not fun at all!

but once you finally get onboard it’s fine. . .sort of airline style seating,

and even tables with bench style seating on either side. . .

didn’t think about getting pics of the inside. . .

Hi Speed Ferry coming in to a frozen Nantucket Harbor - poster hanging in the ticket office at Nantucket

as you can imagine. . .the High Speed Ferry is serious business in this part of the world,

where the only form of transportation to the mainland is by water. . .

This poster was hanging in the ticket office at Nantucket. . .

beautiful Nantucket

our first view of Nantucket. . .

the Shopping District. . .Cobblestone Streets. . .the real deal. . .

the shopping district. . .cobblestone streets are the real mc coy. . .

Tourism. . .their main industry. . .

tourism is big business. . .

loved all the windowboxes

window boxes divine. . .

from the shuttle bus. . .

and of course. . .a trolley tour. . .it’s a great way to get an overall look see. . .

and we had a fabulous tour guide named Gus. . .

I gotta share what Gus taught us. . .pop quiz to follow. . .ha ha!

Cape Cod Houses come in different styles. . .

this is how you differentiate. . .

1/2 Cape - 2 windows 1 door

1/2 Cape – two windows – one door

3/4 Cape - 3 windows - 1 door

3/4 Cape – three windows – one door

Full Cape - 4 windows 1 door

Full Cape – you got it. . .four windows – one door. . .

isn’t that cool?  Now you know. . .

Homestead Cape - built in the era when taxies were levied according to the size of your windows

Homestead Cape – built at a time when taxes were levied according to the size of your windows. . .

typical trend of Nantucket to have lattices, and allow roses to climb all over the house. . .

and a Nantucket Trend. . .to build lattices

and have roses grown all over your house. . .

Nantucket Beach Entry

seriously. . .is this a postcard shot or what?

one of four original Wharfs from when Nantucket was a whaling capitol. . .

the only original wharf (of four) still standing from whaling days. . .

the other three burned. . .this one is now tourist shops

and restaurants. . .I know you find that shocking!

this 450 SF Cottage with Yacht Mooring sold for several million dollars. . .

this little 450 sf cottage is prime real estate because it has

a pier for your yacht. . .it sold for several million just recently. . .

Sunset over Nantucket

I leave you with another postcard worthy shot. . .

Nantucket at sunset. . .what a wonderful day!

‘til next time,

Janice and Dave
