Dave in action. . .doing what he loves most. . .

Dave is spending his day at Texas A&M Fire School,
catching up on paperwork,
and getting his schedule together for the next few months. . .

He worked diligently to make this dream come true. . .
spending countless hours studying and taking classes,
getting all of his certifications,
knowing this is what he wanted to do,
once he retired from his real job. . .

Lampasas County Courthouse

I told you it was beautiful. . .

the Lampasas County Courthouse, built in 1883, has withstood, floods and fire. The beautiful Second Empire Italianate Architecture was designed by W.C. Dodson from Waco TX.

The awesome clock in the central tower was designed by the Seth Thomas Clock Company,
who also designed the clock at Grand Central Station, New York City. . .
I found this bit of information fascinating. . .

Overall it was a great day of sightseeing,
and taking in the historical ambience of the very interesting little town of Lampasas TX. ..

Catching Up

Just wanted to show you a few pictures, and catch you up on where we've been and what we've been doing for the last couple of weeks. . .we wanted to stop by Corpus Christi to see our niece Tiffany, and her boyfriend, Sean. . .had a great visit, and took in the sights. . .the water was beautiful the entire time we were there. . .and I enjoyed every minute. . .
The Puerta del Sol RV Park in Corpus Christi TX was great. . .although it only had gravel pads. . .it was in a wonderful location for fishing or swimming. . .the Battleship USS Lexington was actually within walking distance. . .or I probably should say hiking distance. . .but you could easily get to it from here. . .the Texas State Aquarium was on this same stretch of beach. . .also within hiking distance.
A beautiful drive down the Gulf Coast brought us here. . .to the ferry between Port Aransas and Aransas Pass. . .it was a tiny little ferry. . .and our truck is huge, so they just had us straddle two lanes. . .we saw dolphins for just a brief moment. . .but not long enough to get a picture.

Lake Buchanan was just sad. . .all the boat docks and boat sheds were out of the water. . .we stayed at the small BeachComber RV Park about five miles from Buchanan Dam. . .
Inks Lake State Park at Burnet TX was beautiful. . .we just hiked down to the amphitheatre that was right on the water. . .the park rangers give classes and talks down there.
David in his usual Photography mode. . .almost every picture we have of him, he has a camera in his hand.

The Rear View Window in Lampasas TX

We don't always have a great view. . .and on those days, we leave the blind closed. . .but today was a winner. . .and we got up to a beautiful view out the back window. . .

Great German Food in Lampasas TX

I love German food. . .maybe because my Great Granpa Gruene imigrated from Germany. . .just had wonderful schnitzle and spaetzle at this little German Restaurant right on the town square in Lampasas. . .brought apple strudel home for later. . .may have to go find some Blue Bell to go on top of it. . .

Just arrived in Lampasas TX. . .

The best thing about living in your RV is that you pull in to your next destination. . .hook up a few things. . .turn on the a/c. . .and you are home. . .it is just wonderful. . .

So we just arrived in Lampasas TX, which we have learned has healing sulphur springs, and was a mecca of tourism back in the day. . .since we love history, we are off to see what we can find out. . .

and once again, we have landed in the County Seat. . .I just love old Courthouses in little towns with a Courthouse Square. . .check back later for pics. . .

We are off to eat German Food on the Courthouse Square. . .

oh, and then off to the driving range at the golf course later this afternoon. . .it's been so long since I've swung a golf club, I may need lessons again. . .truly. . .

Brady, the Heart of Texas

Brady, which bills itself as the HEART of Texas, with a population of less than 5600, and the county seat of McCulloch County, was a very pleasant surprise. . .
When David told me we would be staying in an RV spot at the City Park in Brady, while he taught classes for Texas A&M Fire School, I was absolutely prepared for the worst. . .but as you can see, our RV spot at Richard's Park was beautiful, right on the banks of Brady Creek.
