Dave and I thoroughly enjoyed a trip to the Schoodic Penninsula,
which also happens to be a part of Acadia National Park,
but is on the mainland, not on Mount Desert Isle,
so is often overlooked by tourist, which is a sad thing,
‘cause it is beautiful. . .
We saw several different views of Cadillac Mountain over the course of the day. . .all beautiful. . .
this first view is from the overlook at Sullivan Harbor. . .
and again looking out across Frenchman Bay at Winter Harbor. . .
I decided I should see if the water was as cold as everyone says. . .IT WAS!
Lobster Boats in Winter Harbor
Chainsaw Art in Winter Harbor. . .I love it!
we stopped for lunch at the Frazer Point picnic area. . .
yummy tuna and crackers. . .beautiful views. . .
Winter Harbor Head Light
and again with Cadillac Mountain in the background. . .
Coastal Maine. . .seriously. . .does it get any prettier than this?
the Gulf of Maine from Schoodic Point. . .
loving the artist. . .
at the mouth of Frenchman Bay . . .looking over the Mount Desert Island,
and Cadillac Mountain
a little Gulf of Maine surf action. . . I could have sat there for hours. . .
and the only little blip on the day. . .see how jaggedy and uneven these rocks are. . .
Dave had walked on further out. . . I was lagging behind taking pics of the surf. . .
and was following along behind. . .he turned to come back and tell me about some loose rocks. . .
somehow lost his footing. . .and fell pretty hard. . .
thankfully, he caught himself and landed on the top flat rock. . .
he could have very easily have tumbled over into those sharp jagged edges
and had a much more serious injury. . .
Of course folks were saying, are you okay? are you okay? so he had to do the man thang. . .
jump up, and say I’m fine. . .I’m fine. . .but I could tell he was hurting. . .
and when he didn’t pick up his camera right away. . .I was just sure it was serious!
but other than a couple of scrapes on his knees,
and a bit of swelling above his elbow, he seems to be okay today!
after getting him to the car we iced his arm with the ice pack we had left from our picnic lunch. . .
and I drove. . .seriously. . .if he lets me drive. . .well my boys will know what that means. . .
passed this beautiful lighthouse, Harbor Point Head Light, on our way back out to the highway. . .
couldn’t resist this shot. . .
by this point Dave’s insisting that he is really, really okay. . .
and that we should continue over to Corea, which is only three miles away,
and attempt to purchase lobster off the boat. . .
Success. . .and about a dollar a pound cheaper than in town. . .
it was interesting to see them offload the crabs and lobster
and onload the herring they use for bait. . .
here’s our purchase. . .five pounds of soft shell lobster. . .
now, if only the water will boil. . .yum!
‘til next time,
Janice and Dave
